FDM remains the world’s favorite 3D printing technology, thanks to its versatility—ranging from entry-level solutions for standard materials to high-end industrial systems capable of printing advanced high-performance thermoplastics. However, following the expiry of the latest patents relating to FDM technology in 2021, manufacturers are seeking new and better ways to differentiate themselves by offering enhanced features and capabilities.
One prominent player in the industrial FDM segment is 3ntr, a company based in Italy, renowned for its end-to-end solutions. Its portfolio includes advanced software, robust industrial 3D printing systems, and a diverse range of high-temperature polymers. At Formnext 2024, I visited their booth to explore their latest innovations, milestones, and vision for the additive manufacturing industry.
Over 60 Years of History
Founded in Oleggio, Italy, more than six decades ago by Josè Ardizzoia, 3ntr began as a family business specializing in the production of metal and polymer components for the lingerie industry. Adapting to a rapidly evolving market, the company began developing and manufacturing its own equipment in the early 2000s, gaining valuable expertise along the way.
In 2013, Josè's children, Ilaria and Davide Ardizzoia, pivoted the company’s focus entirely toward Additive Manufacturing, leveraging their decades of experience to create a new era of innovation for 3ntr.

Building on its extensive expertise in machine building, 3ntr has integrated advanced technologies such as ultrasonic cutting, induction heating, micronized polymers, laser cutting, PLCs, image processing, and linear motors into the development of industrial-grade AM systems tailored for professional users.
The company’s business philosophy is rooted in understanding and addressing customer needs. By fostering close relationships with its clients, 3ntr has continuously refined its systems to ensure they remain reliable, efficient, and adaptable.
To date, 3ntr has sold hundreds of 3D printing systems through a network of several dozen channel partners worldwide. Its customers include some of the world’s leading companies, such as Airbus, Decathlon, and Louis Vuitton, highlighting the trust and recognition 3ntr has earned in various industries.
Leveraging Decades of Expertise to Build Robust AM Solutions
One of 3ntr’s key strengths lies in its dedicated focus on FDM technology, consistently developing and enhancing its solutions. From compact desktop systems to large-scale industrial machines, the company ensures its product portfolio evolves in step with its customers' diverse and expanding needs.
In recent years, 3ntr has introduced two remarkable systems that exemplify its innovation in industrial FDM technology:
Spectral 30
A fully heated chamber system designed for high-performance thermoplastics such as PEEK, PEKK, PEI, PAEK, and PPSU, alongside soluble or breakaway supports.
Equipped with four nozzles for enhanced versatility and productivity.
Features VENTO units for efficient filament drying, ensuring optimal material quality while minimizing energy consumption and protecting filaments from contamination.
SEQUOIA Large-Scale 3D Printer
Designed for large-format additive manufacturing, it meets the demand for producing oversized, high-precision parts.
